As a legal aid provider for low-income individuals and
families throughout 10 counties in northwestern
Pennsylvania, NWLS is committed to helping clients get all
of the public benefits they are entitled to receive
under the law. These “income maintenance” programs include
Supplemental Security Income, unemployment compensation, and
welfare benefits such as AFDC.
We also help clients avoid the repayment of funds which
they government claims were incorrectly administered, but
which our clients were entitled to receive.
Together, these lump sum “income maintenance” payments to
NWLS clients in 2005 totaled more than $1,111,400.
In 2005 we also were able to help clients realize over
$102,000 in monthly payments for benefits such as
unemployment compensation and food stamps. When multiplied
over 12 months, the monthly awards total nearly $1,225,000.
When lump sum payments and monthly awards are added
together, we were able to help low-income clients in 2005
receive approximately $2,300,000 in benefits. |
